Welcome Greyson!

The night before Greyson was born.
After nine months of waiting, my daughter became a mother, which means, I became a grandmother.

How strange it seems to think of myself....a grandmother. But here I am, 50 years old, a grandmother.

The night before his (planned) arrival, me and Chuck drove the three hours to South Georgia to be with Amber and Chris on the eve of their parenthood. We braved the smell of manure and paper mill to get there, and then suffered the haphazard sleep of those who lay all night on a lumpy futon. (The 'bed' in the guest room).

Of course I didn't sleep hardly a wink, and not just because of the lumpy futon. It was mostly the excitement I could barely contain of knowing soon a little baby would be born into our family.

The next morning, Amber and Chris were already up and gone by the time we woke. We scrubbed up and headed to Americus to the hospital. We hadn't been there long when the doctors wheeled Amber away to surgery.

Our first glimpse of Greyson!
After a bit of waiting, there was a flurry of excitement just beyond our waiting area, and around the corner came a bassinet on wheels, pushed by a nurse, containing a little bit of an angel inside it.

All us grandparents gathered around to see the awesome wonder...a tiny bundle of pink skin and dark hair.

Getting his first exam.
And then they wheeled his little chariot on down the hallway to begin much prodding and poking. A few minutes later we were allowed to stand near the nursery, to watch the little baby behind the plexiglass window. We ooohed and aaaahed and I have to admit I cried a little.
The joys of Grandmotherhood!

Becoming a grandmother has been one of my best accomplishments. And I didn't have to do a thing!

Getting Ready for Greyson!

A baby shower was given for Amber by me, her sister, her grandmother and friend Debbie for her side of the family and friends from and around her hometown, Loganville, Georgia. (The weekend before, there was a shower from her inlaws for friends and family in and around Oglethope!)

We had so much fun playing games, catching up with friends and family, and eating delicous food! But the best part of the shower was watching her open all the terrific gifts she received....all in preperation for the arrival of Greyson!
Greyson's bath tub

I can see him now, splashing in the bathtub and wearing all the cute outfits she has collected from friends and family since the announcement 'It's a boy!'.
Waiting for the next gift to open!

Such cute little outfits!

Debbie working hard in the kitchen...the veggie tray was fabulous!

Me, Debbie, Mama and Aunt Judy worked hard that morning to get the decorations 'just right' and the food 'just so', and we were pleased with the outcome.

The food table was scrumptious!

On the menu:
Finger Sandwiches (chicken salad, pimento cheese & egg salad)
Chips & Dip
Sausage Pinwheels
Pigs 'n Blankets
Fruit Tray
Veggie Tray
An assortment of dips
Nuts & Mints
Cupcakes
Oreo Cheesecake bars
Greenish-Bluish Punch

I get hungry everytime I look at the picture.

Debbie used to cater, so she knows all the little tricks to present food in it's most lucious appearance!

Monkeys abound at the baby shower!

When Amber was still a baby, she climbed in her crib and on the furniture so much, her daddy said she acted just like a monkey...and it stuck. One of her nicknames was Monk from then on! Therefore, there had to be monkeys at the shower!
Amber smells a doodie diaper!

The younger girls experience a doodie diaper.
Showers can be a learning experience for the younger girls...why you have a shower, what you do at a shower, the kinds of foods and games you have at the shower. I think these girls had a blast!
Grandma's little guy...can't wait to meet him!

Dad and Granddad get goodies after the shower.

Greyson's dad and granddad got into the fun also...they came near the end of the shower to help load up the gifts...and to finish off some of the goodies on the food table!
